The focal point of this interactive experience is viewing this animated image. After exporting all individual frames from After Effects, I lined them up in the Unity Animator for it to seamlessly play. Then, to make this interactive, I attached strings to the Lyre, the musical instrument, and programmed it so that if the mouse hovers over all 4 strings, the UI appears as seen in the video demonstration.
To properly set up animation in After Effects, I first had to adjust every layer in photoshop. The line art and colour for a piece of Hermes (ex. the hat) were combined into one layer, and then all layers were ordered in terms of depth.
With the correct layers, I exported them into After Effects and use the Puppet Pin tool built into the software to move around the sprites. The puppet pin tool works similarly to bones on a 3D model, I placed points in the top, middle, and bottom of a sprite and then can move the points to deform the sprite. The best visual is the hat wings, where you can see them flapping up and down!
"His resourcefulness is immediately demonstrated by his invention of the lyre, while his cunning and thieving nature comes to the fore in his nightly” (de Jong 68).
